Ana-Lucia worked at the LAPD as an officer. Her mother was the chief. While newly pregnant and on duty, Ana-Lucia was shot and lost her baby. She later shot and killed the shooter. Her mother suspected and said she would help, but instead, Ana-Lucia resigned. Ana-Lucia went to work in an airport as a security guard. One day in the bar she met Jack's father, Christian, and he persuaded her to escort him to Australia as his body guard. After going to Australia and seeing a run-in Christian had with a woman, Ana-Lucia decided to return to the States, putting her on Flight 815. Island: Ana-Lucia is a tail section survivor. She quickly became the leader of the group and eventually led the remaining survivors across the island to meet up with the survivors of the fuselage section. As they got close to the other camp, they heard whispers and Ana-Lucia accidentally shot and killed Shannon Rutherford. Ana-Lucia later made amends with Shannon's boyfriend, Sayid, but she never really fit in with the group. After 65 days on the island, she was shot and killed by Michael who had made a deal with the Others in order to get his son back from them. Strong Relationships: Jack,who had met her before the crash, and Libby, who was also a tail section survivor.Rocky Relationships: Sayid, after the shooting of Shannon they were enemies, but Sayid later told Ana-Lucia that he didn't blame her for Shannon's death, he blamed the Others.

Ben Linus

In flashbacks, we learned that Ben came to the island as a boy, was shot by Sayid, went to the hostiles, grew up to work for Dharma, then joined the hostiles. He personally killed his father while the rest of the initiative was gassed. He also stole Rousseau's baby instead of killing Rousseau on Charles orders. He made sure Charles was banished. Island: He was first known as Henry Gale, but Sayid discovered that he was not Henry Gale. It wasn't until much later that we learned his real name is Ben. He had a tumor on his spine, which Jack removed.Ben didn't start getting better until Locke was around him. Ben took Locke to see Jacob, whom Locke couldn't see at first. Shortly after, Ben shot Locke.Ben and Alex intercepted Jack and the survivors on their way to the radio tower. Ben said he would have his men kill Sayid, Bernard, and Jin. Jack beat Ben and took him captive.After being captured by Jack, Locke kept Ben a prisoner in Ben's own basement, but later let him go after Ben revealed some secrets.Keamy's men kidnapped Alex to try to get to Ben, but Ben bluffed and said that Alex wasn't his daughter and didn't mean anything to him. Keamy shot Alex and Ben was devastated.Shortly after Ben went into and then came out of his hidden room, the smoke monster came after Keamy's men. Post-Island: Ben goes to Tunisia and sees Sayid on the news after Nadia was murdered. Ben goes to Sayid and manipulates Sayid into working for him. Ben goes to see Charles Widmore and promises to murder his daughter, Penny. Charles promises to get the island back. Ben says Charles will never find the island and Charles says Ben will never find Penny.Per Eloise Hawking's instructions, Ben works to get the Oceanic 6 back together. He gets on the Ajira Airways Flight headed for Guam and ends up back on the island. He and Locke go to the main island and he summons the smoke monster to be judged for killing Alex. The monster doesn't come, and Locke takes him to the hole outside the walls that surround the Temple.In the smoke Ben sees his past with Alex. Alex appears to him and tells him to listen to John Locke. Strong Relationships: The Others seem to follow him and do what he says for the most part. He has a strong, if rocky, bond with his daughter Alex, until she is killed by Keamy. Rocky Relationships: He seems to have a rocky relationship with Juliet, Jack, and Locke and he and Charles Widmore hate each other and work against each other.

Reason for the Flight: In Australia to beg his brother, Liam, to rejoin their band, DriveShaft Profession: Bloody Rock God! Charlie was a bassist for the band DriveShaft and believes himself a "bloody rock God", despite the fact that the band only had one hit, "You All Everybody". Charlie Facts: Pre-Crash: Charlie's brother, Liam, talked Charlie into getting into a band with him. Liam was the lead singer and Charlie wrote a lot of the songs. They had one hit, but when Liam got into drugs, Charlie resisted for a long time, but then followed suit.When the band broke up, Charlie wanted to get them back together, but Liam got clean and didn't want anything to do with the band.Charlie met a woman and tried to get clean for her, but desperate for drugs, he stole from her and then she wouldn't have anything to do with him. Island: At first Charlie thought everyone would know him because he thought of himself as a famous rock star. Locke helped Charlie get through heroin withdrawal, but later believed Charlie was back on the drugs.Charlie got very close to Claire, and one day while walking through the jungle after Claire had some false labor, they were captured by Ethan Rom. As a warning for Jack to stop following, Ethan hanged Charlie, but Jack was able to save him.Charlie stayed with Claire after she came back from the Others (after being kidnapped) and was there when her baby was born. When Danielle Rousseau kidnapped Aaron, Charlie and Sayid went and got him back.After Claire found out about the heroin hidden in the statue of the Virgin Mary that Charlie had found, she didn't want him to come near her or her baby.Claire began getting close to Locke, and out of jealousy Charlie wanted to make Locke look like a fool, so he helped Sawyer con Locke and Jack so that Sawyer could get control of the guns.Charlie was with Eko when the hatch imploded, but didn't seem to be affected, other than losing his hearing for a little while. He and Claire reconciled.Desmond began to see flashes and in many of these flashes he saw Charlie die. Desmond saved Charlie from death many times, but after 93 days on the island, Charlie sacrificed himself in The Looking Glass. Strong Relationships: Hurley, though they had a rough patch when Hurley told Charlie he was a millionaire and then later wouldn't give him peanut butter from the hatch. Rocky Relationships: He and Claire kissed, but Claire didn't want Charlie around after she found out about the drugs in the Virgin Mary statue. Eko and Charlie were very close until Eko stopped building a church with Charlie in order to push the button in the hatch. For a while, Charlie felt that Jack didn't respect him. At one point, Charlie looked up to Locke as a mentor, but then Locke started getting too close to Claire.

Reason for the Flight: Heading to L.A. to meet a couple to adopt her soon-to-be-born baby Profession: She worked at a tattoo and piercing shop and later at The Fish 'N' Fry. Claire Facts: Pre-Crash: In her late teens, Claire was driving her mother somewhere and they were in an accident. Her mother was on life support for several months, coming out of her coma after Claire crashed on the island.Claire's biological father, whom she believed dead, paid for her mother's hospital bills and told Claire he was her father.Claire never got his name, so she doesn't know that he is Christian Shephard, father of Jack Shephard.Claire got pregnant and planned to give the baby up for adoption after the baby's father left her. At the beginning of her pregnancy, she saw a psychic who wouldn't do her reading, but she later convinced him. He told her that she had to raise the baby herself because danger surrounded the baby.Claire went to an adoption agency, but after two pens ran out of ink and she wasn't able to sign the documents, she changed her mind.The psychic convinced her to give her baby to a couple in L.A. and that she must take Flight 815, which left the next day. Island: Claire was abducted by Ethan and disappeared. When she returned, she couldn't remember anything that had happened to her since the crash.She gave birth to a baby boy, who was taken by Danielle Rousseau, but Charlie and Sayid got him back and she named him Aaron.Claire began to get her memory back and remembered a medical hatch where they'd kept her. She also remembered that Rousseau had helped her to escape.Claire came up with a plan to get rescued. She tied a message to a tag on a bird's foot hoping that a scientist would find the note and help them to get rescued.When Claire gets sick, Juliet gives her an injection and she recovers.When the groups split, Claire goes with Locke's group to the Barracks and is in an explosion when Keamy's men blow up the house she is taking a nap in.Sawyer, Miles, and Claire decide to go back to the beach camp, but in the middle of the night, Claire sees Christian and goes with him. Sawyer can't find her, but finds Aaron in the jungle.When Locke goes to talk to Jacob, an out-of-it Claire sits inside with Christian. Strong Relationships: Her son, Aaron. She is also close to Locke and Kate. Sun often watches the baby for her, and she is close to Jin as well. Rocky Relationships: She and Charlie have had some ups and downs. They became friends quickly, but Charlie became overbearing with her and Aaron. She didn't want anything to do with him after she found out he was a drug addict and was hiding heroin. They reconciled again after the hatch implosion.

Reason on the Island: Part of the supposed rescue mission team sent on the freighter, but he actually came to study the island and Dharma Daniel Faraday Facts: Pre-Crash: Daniel's mother, Eloise Hawking, was always hard on him and wanted him to work hard. She said his gift was his mind and he needed to stay away from distractions. When he graduated from Oxford, she was upset that he had a girlfriend. Daniel became a professor at Oxford and did experiments on himself and his girlfriend, Theresa, and he ended up with memory loss, she ended up in a hospital bed. Island: Daniel parachuted onto the island and told Jack that he was there to rescue him, but Daniel is actually there to study the island and Dharma. He got a rocket sent from the freighter and was surprised that it came 31 minutes after he had expected it to.Daniel is close with Charlotte, another member of the team who parachuted onto the island and together they go to the Tempest Station and turn off the gas that they claim would have killed everyone on the island.When Daniel hears that the mercenaries from the freighter are going to the Orchid Station, he tells Charlotte that they have to get off the island.On his way to the freighter with a group of people in the Zodiac, there is a flash of light and the freighter disappears. Daniel goes back to the island and tells those around him that either they or the island are jumping around in time.Charlotte dies as a result of the time jumping and Daniel is distraught. They stop jumping through time, landing in 1974, where Daniel sees Charlotte as a little girl.Daniel lands in 1974 with some of the survivors and leaves the island to go to Ann Arbor. He comes back in 1977 when he sees a picture of the new recruits with Jack, Kate, and Hurley in it. He finds his mother, one of the hostiles, but before he can talk to her, she shoots him in the back. Strong Relationships: Charlotte, who came with him to the island on the freighter and then the helicopter. Rocky Relationships: Daniel gets along pretty well with everyone, though he tries to reason with people under stressful circumstances when they are not ready to listen.

Reason on the Island: Desmond was racing around the world on a sailboat, but he hit bad weather, bumped his head, and washed up on the island. Profession: At one point he studied to become a monk. He later became a member of Royal Scots Regiment of the British Army, but was dishonorably discharged for not following orders. Desmond Facts: Pre-Crash: Desmond raised three brothers after something happened to his father. He was in a relationship with Ruth for six years, before joining a monastery one week before their wedding. He was fired from the monastery after getting drunk.Later, he was dishonorably discharged from Royal Scots Regiment of the British Army for refusing to follow orders. When he was released, Charles Widmore was there to tell Desmond to stay away from Charles' daughter, Penny.Desmond entered a boat race around the world sponsored by Charles Widmore, but ran into bad weather and hit his head. He washed up on the shore of the island and was taken to the Swan Station by Kelvin.Kelvin taught Desmond how to enter the numbers into the computer, but was later killed accidentally by Desmond.Desmond believes Flight 815 crashed because he had failed to enter the numbers into the computer on time. After the hatch imploded, Desmond believes that he went back in time to live part of his life over. He wanted to ask Penny to marry him, but instead broke her heart. Island: Desmond took Locke hostage when he first entered the hatch. He told Locke how to enter the numbers and where the Orientation film was kept. While Desmond held Locke and Jack at gun point, Kate snuck up behind him and hit him. As he went down, his gun fired and hit the computer. Desmond scrambled to fix it, but couldn't, so he ran away.Desmond returned when he realized his sailboat would not take him away from the island. He helped Locke create a fake lockdown in order to keep Eko from pressing the button.After the timer reached zero, Desmond went below the hatch and turned a failsafe key. Later, we saw him in the jungle and he was naked and since then, it seems he sees flashes of the future. Desmond saw and saved Charlie from death numerous times before Charlie finally sacrificed himself.Desmond went to the freighter with Sayid and left on the helicopter. He made it to Penny's boat and stayed with Penny. Strong Relationships: Sayid Rocky Relationships: Desmond and Jack have had a lot of ups and downs. At first Locke believes Desmond, but their relationship gets rocky when Desmond believes they need to push the button and Locke destroys the computer so that they can't. Later, they begin to work together well.

Reason for the Flight: He went to Sydney to get Shannon and they were returning home Profession: Chief Operating Officer of his mother's wedding business Boone Facts: Pre-Crash: When Boone was a kid, his mother married Shannon's father. Shannon was a couple of years younger than Boone and he was always in love with her. He often got her out of bad situations. More than once he paid men to leave her, but realized Shannon was scamming him in order to get money.When Shannon herself was scammed, she went to Boone and the two slept together. Shannon told him things would return to the way they were. They got on Flight 815 to return home. Island: Boone wanted to help people, but didn't have the skills that Jack has. Before long, he found a friend in Locke and the two found a hatch that they dug out and tried to get into. After 41 days on the island, Boone was killed by injuries sustained from falling in an airplane that he climbed into following Locke's instructions and visions. Strong Relationships: Locke, his mentor Rocky Relationships: Shannon, his stepsister with whom he had a love/hate relationship

Reason for the Flight: In Sydney to investigate a claim that a girl was brought back from the dead. Profession: Drug Lord turned priest Eko Facts: Pre-Crash: As a child, Eko got in trouble for stealing food for his starving brother, Yemi. When thugs came and gave Yemi a gun and told him to shoot an old man, Eko stepped in and did it instead. He was then taken by the men and grew up to be a drug Lord.Yemi grew up to be a priest and Eko blackmailed Yemi into making him a priest so that he could fly drugs out of the country. As they were leaving with the drugs, Yemi was shot and put on the drug plane and Eko was kicked off.Eko took Yemi's place as a priest. Island: Eko was in the tail section of the plane and helped Ana-Lucia lead the Tailies. He and Charlie began to build a church on the island, but Eko stopped after he had a vision of Yemi. He believed that his purpose was to push the button in the hatch.Eko continued to have visions of Yemi until the smoke monster killed him after 72 days on the island. Strong Relationships: None Rocky Relationships: He and Ana-Lucia didn't always agree on how to best lead the others. He and Charlie were close until Charlie got mad that Eko stopped building the church. Locke and Eko worked together and against each other as they struggled to find the meaning of life and their roles on the island.

Reason for the Flight: Hoping to get home in time to celebrate his mother's birthday after researching "the numbers" Profession: Multimillion dollar lottery winner. Before that, he worked at Mr. Clucks chicken restaurant. Hugo "Hurley" Reyes Facts: Pre-Crash: Hurley's dad left when Hurley was a boy. This is when his addiction to food began.As an adult, Hurley was in a mental hospital after walking out onto a deck, which then collapsed, killing 4 people. He blamed his weight.After getting rid of his imaginary friend Dave, Hurley was released from the hospital and moved back in with his mother. Shortly after, he won the lottery, using numbers one of the other mental hospital patients repeated over and over. Ever since winning, bad things happen to people around Hurley.He bought Mr. Clucks, but a reporter, Tricia Tanaka, was killed when a meteor hit the restaurant while she was doing a piece on Hurley. His dad returned, but Hurley was suspicious that his father just wanted Hurley's money, so he didn't listen to his father when his father said that Hurley wasn't cursed.Hurley went to Australia to find Sam Toomey to find out more about the numbers he'd used to win the lottery. Island: Hurley seems to be the guy on the island that everyone likes. He's funny, helpful, and smart. He falls for Tailie Libby, but she is shot by Michael.Hurley is captured by the Others with Jack, Kate, and Sawyer, but set free and told to tell the rest the group to not come looking for them.Hurley finds a Dharma bus on the island and feels he is no longer cursed as he gets the bus running.In the war against the Others, Hurley saves Jin, Bernard, and Sayid when he drives the Dharma bus onto the beach and runs over one of the Others.When Jack and Locke part ways, Hurley goes with Locke's group.Hurley sees Jacob's cabin and Locke uses Hurley to find the cabin again.When the helicopter leaves the island, Hurley is on it and also makes it to the raft and off the island. Post-Island: Hurley's parents throw him a surprise birthday party and his father gives him the Camaro they'd worked on together when Hurley was young. Hurley sees the that the numbers are on the odometer and runs away screaming.Hurley believes that he is seeing things that aren't really there and is relieved to be put back into Santa Rosa Mental Hospital. At the hospital, he sees Charlie, who tells him that "they need him". Strong Relationships: Libby was probably the strongest, but everyone seems to like Hurley. He and Charlie had a fight that lasted a few days, but they were really good friends up until Charlie's death. Rocky Relationships: Hurley is not a big Michael fan ever since Michael shot and killed Hurley's girlfriend, Libby.

Juliet Burke

Reason for the Flight: Juliet was not on the flight. She was already on the island at the time of the crash. Profession: Fertility Doctor Juliet Facts: Pre-Crash: Juliet had been on the island for about three years at the time of the plane crash. Previous to that, she was in Miami working on fertility experiments and was successful in impregnating her ill sister.She was approached by Dr. Alpert to work for Mittelos Bioscience, but she was very sad to say that her ex husband, Edmund Burke, would never let her and the only way would be if he got hit by a bus. Later, Edmund was hit by a bus, most likely as a result of someone at Mittelos, and Dr. Alpert approached Juliet again.Juliet took the job, despite having to leave her sister behind with no contact for six months.Juliet couldn't figure out what was wrong with the pregnant women on the island and they kept dying. She told Ben she thought it was happening at conception and she wanted to take a woman back with her to Miami. Ben said no and she said it was time for her to go home.Ben told Juliet that her sister's cancer had returned, but that if she stayed and helped them, Jacob would make the cancer go away.Juliet stayed. Three years later she discovered Ben had cancer and believed he'd lied to her, but he showed her live footage of her sister, Rachel, playing with Rachel's toddler son.Island: Unlike the rest of the Others, Juliet doesn't seem to bow to Ben's wishes. She knew that Ben had a crush on her. Ben got her lover, Goodwin, who was married, killed. She interacts a lot with Jack while Jack is in captivity in the Hydra. She tells Jack that he can trust her and secretly asks him to let Ben die when Ben is counting on Jack to remove a tumor from his spine.When Jack tells Tom of Juliet's plan, Juliet denies it. Ben wakes during the surgery and talks to Juliet. She comes out and asks Jack to save him, later telling him that Ben had promised she could go home.Juliet helps Kate, Sawyer, and Karl escape off the smaller island by shooting Danny Pickett.Juliet claims to have been left behind when the Others left their camp, but it was a plan devised by Ben to get Juliet into the survivors' camp.Juliet helps Jack and the other survivors attack the Others. Strong Relationships: Jack Rocky Relationships: Ben. Juliet doesn't seem to like Ben, but it's his decision whether or not she leaves the island.

Reason for the Flight: Bringing his father's body back to the U.S. Profession: Spinal surgeon at St. Sebastian Hospital in Los Angeles Jack Shephard Facts: Pre-Crash: Jack miraculously saved a woman, Sarah, and then married her. She later left him for another man. At one point, Jack suspected that Sarah was seeing his overbearing father, who, like Jack, was a spinal surgeon at St. Sebastian hospital.Jack accused his alcoholic father, Christian Shephard, of sleeping with his wife, and also turned him in to the medical board for operating while under the influence.Jack went to Phuket, where he met Achara, and Christian went on a drinking binge in Australia, and that is believed to be the cause of his death. Jack went to Australia to search for him at his mother's insistence, and was returning to the states with his father's body when the plane went down.Island: Being a doctor, most of the survivors looked to Jack as their leader, but Jack didn't want to be their leader. He finally came around, but often had conflict with the other strong personalities on the island.Jack was attracted to Kate and in competition with Sawyer for her affections. He also seemed to be developing a relationship with Ana-Lucia before her death.Jack was captured by the Others and forced to live in a small room. He formed a relationship with Juliet who persuaded him to remove a tumor from Ben's spine.Juliet was shunned by the Others after shooting fellow Other, Danny Pickett, and went with Jack to live on the beach with the Flight 815 survivors.A woman parachutes onto the island, followed by her team of an additional four people who at first claim to be there to rescue them, but it's later discovered they are not. Jack becomes friends with the helicopter pilot and is flown off of the island with Kate, Sun, Aaron, Hurley, and Sayid. Post-Island: Jack meets Carole Littleton at his father's funeral and learns that Claire is his half sister.Shortly after Kate's trial, Jack moves in with her and Aaron and is very happy, but starts to go downhill when he thinks he sees his father. From then on, Jack seems to always be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. He almost commits suicide, but stops in order to help a mother and son.Jack desperately wants to get back to the island, and begs Kate to meet him. He tells her that they should be on the island, but she doesn't agree.Jack goes to a funeral home, where he sees Locke in a casket. Ben says that in order to get back to the island, they all have to go, including Locke. Strong Relationships: While once rocky, his relationship with Sayid is now very solid. He and Sun often work together to help the ill and wounded. He also had a strong relationship with Ana-Lucia and has developed a strong relationship with Juliet. Rocky Relationships: Kate (he loves her so much he sometimes hates her), Sawyer (they are in competition for the same woman, but also disagree on how to survive on the island, yet sometimes they work well together), and especially Locke (Jack and Locke have always struggled for power, and Jack believes in science, while Locke believes in faith).

Reason for the Flight: Jin was delivering watches for his boss, Sun's father, in Sydney and then L.A. Profession: He worked for Mr. Paik, and before that was a doorman at a hotel Jin Facts: Pre-Crash: Jin lost his job as a doorman when he let a man take his son into the hotel to use the bathroom. He met Sun after bumping into her and the two formed a relationship, despite the fact that Jin was poor and Sun was well off.Sun knew it would be a problem with her father if she married Jin, but Jin asked him anyway. He said it was okay as long as Jin worked for him. Jin agreed, but quickly discovered that Mr. Paik was into shady dealings and Jin was expected to use violence in order to enforce Mr. Paik's wishes.Island: Speaking only Korean, Jin could not understand the other survivors and wanted he and Sun to keep to themselves. He got into a scuffle with Michael over a watch that Michael found that Jin thought he had stolen. Because of the language barrier neither understood what was really going on. Sayid handcuffed Jin to a piece of the wreckage.When the raft burned, many fingers pointed at Jin, and Sun revealed the fact that she speaks English in order to save him. He hadn't known she could speak English and it caused a rift.A new raft was built and Jin sailed away in search of rescue with Sawyer, Michael, whom he'd become good friends with, and Walt. Walt was taken by pirates and the raft blown apart. Jin washed ashore and was captured by the Tailies. The Tailies later captured Sawyer and Michael and they discovered that they were all on the same flight.Jin, Sawyer, Michael, and the Tailies made their way to the other survivors' camp and Jin and Sun reconciled.Jin had always wanted a baby, but Sun couldn't have children. Sun revealed to him that it is he who can't have children, yet she is pregnant. She swears that she was never with another man.Jin and Sun are among the first group to the go to the freighter for rescue. When a bomb is discovered, Jin helps Desmond and Michael try to disarm it. Michael tells him to go, but the helicopter has already taken off. The freighter blows up with Jin on it, but he survives and is picked up by a young Danielle Rousseau. Strong Relationships: While rocky at times, overall Jin and Sun have a solid relationship. Rocky Relationships: Jin and Michael were at first enemies, but ended up being really close friends.

Reason for the Flight: Returning home after being rejected from a Walkabout tour of the Australian Outback. Profession: Owner of a home inspection business, then Regional Collections Supervisor for a box company. John Locke Facts: Pre-Crash: John Locke was not raised by his biological parents. He was sent from foster home to foster home and didn't know his biological mother and father until his mother found him and scammed him into thinking that he'd found his biological father on his own. His father, Anthony Cooper, befriended him, and then let it slip that he needed a kidney transplant. Locke was quick to offer his kidney, but after the operation, his father didn't want anything to do with him. Locke was obsessed with wanting to know why his father didn't want his friendship.He met Helen and they began a relationship, but she wanted him to stop watching his father. He couldn't do this and Helen left him.When Locke found out that his father was conning a family, he interceded and his father pushed him out of an eight story window. Locke survived, but was paralyzed from the waist down.He began working for a box company. He wanted to do a Walkabout tour of the Australian Outback, but when he showed up in a wheelchair, the company said he couldn't go. They sent Locke home on Flight 815. Island: After the crash, Locke gets sudden use of his legs. He believes that the island has healed him and that he must listen to the island and do what it asks. At one point he sees something that he later describes as a beautiful white light.After he and Boone find a hatch in the ground, Locke believes it's his destiny to open it and he is so obsessed that he ends up getting Boone killed after he has Boone climb up a cliff and into a small plane.Locke and a group get dynamite to blow the hatch open and they find Desmond inside. Locke's new purpose becomes punching in the code and hitting the execute button to reset the timer every 108 minutes.He eventually resents having to push the button and comes to believe that it's just an experiment and that nothing will happen if they don't push the button. He locks Eko out and breaks the computer. When the timer reaches zero, the hatch implodes. Somehow, Locke and the others survive.Locke then believes he must save Eko, but when Eko dies, he looks for another purpose.Locke, along with Sayid, Kate, and Rousseau find The Flame Station. Locke plays a chess game on a computer and eventually beats it, which brings up some options. One of the options is to enter 77. After Locke comes out, the place blows up.Locke finds Ben and finds out where the submarine is. He blows up (or possibly just makes it look like the sub blew up) the submarine so that no one can get off the island.Locke hangs out with the Others and realizes that they have his father, Anthony Cooper. They want Locke to kill his father, but he can't and gets Sawyer to do it.Locke communicates with Jacob through Christian Shephard. Strong Relationships: Eko, Claire, and Desmond after their initial encounter. Rocky Relationships: Jack and Locke have struggled for power and also struggle in the ideas of faith versus science. Locke is a big believer in faith. At first he takes on the role of Charlie's mentor and helps Charlie get off of heroin, but then their relationship changes when Locke starts hanging around Claire. He and Eko initially were friends, but that all changed with their opposite views on pressing the button, and then later Eko was killed. Locke doesn't entirely trust him, but has a strong relationship with Ben.

Reason for the Flight: Being escorted from Australia to the U.S. by a Marshal Profession: We know she is a fugitive and a pretty good con artist Kate Austen Facts: Pre-Crash: Kate was on the run from the age of 24 after blowing up her mother's house with her stepfather inside. She had just learned that her stepfather was actually her biological father. Previously she had believed her father was Sergeant Sam Austen.Marshal Edward Mars caught Kate, but she got away from him. He continued to pursue her.Kate went by many different names, at one point going by Lucy and working with Cassidy to see her mother. At another point, as Monica, she got married. She called the Marshal and begged him to stop chasing her, but he said he would only if she stopped running. Kate left her husband. Island: The last time the Marshal caught her, he was transporting her to the U.S. on Flight 815. He survived the crash, but died a few days later. Before he died he was able to tell Jack that Kate was a fugitive.Kate bonded with Jack as she sewed a wound on his back. She also bonded with Sawyer. Kate wanted to be included in every adventure on the island and at one point got captured by the Others. Jack, Sawyer, and Locke had to give up their guns in order to get her back.Later, she was captured by the Others along with Jack and Sawyer and she and Sawyer were made to live in cages and work breaking up and hauling rocks. She climbed out of her cage and hooked up with Sawyer.After escaping, she went back to get Jack and ruined his chances to get off the island. Juliet told Kate that Jack saw her and Sawyer together and she broke his heart. Post-Island: Kate's mother doesn't testify against her, so Kate is sentenced with time served, 10 years probation, and must stay in California. Kate agrees because of her son.Kate's son is Aaron Littleton, but it seems everyone other than the Oceanic Six, including Aaron himself, believes that Kate is his mother. After the trial, Jack moves in with Kate, but after she does a favor for Sawyer, he moves out.When Jack contacts Kate she goes to see him.Jack tells her that they have to go back [to the island], but Kate doesn't agree. After losing Aaron in a supermarket, Kate takes him to Claire's mom and tells her that he is her grandson and to take care of him while she goes to get Claire. Return to the Island: Kate works for Dharma with Juliet in the motor pool. When young Ben is shot, Kate donates her blood. Strong Relationships: Sun, as she was one of the first to know that Sun spoke English. She and Sayid work well together. Rocky Relationships: Jack, Sawyer, and Kate are in a love triangle. Kate and Juliet are both competing for Jack's affections.

Reason for the Flight: Returning to the U.S. after going to Australia to get his son, Walt, after Walt's mother died Profession: Construction worker and aspiring artist Michael Dawson Facts: Pre-Crash: When Walt was a baby, his mother, Susan Lloyd, told Michael that she was leaving him and taking Walt. She moved out of the country, and Michael fought for custody, but eventually gave up. Though he wrote to Walt all the time, Susan hid the letters from Walt.When Walt was ten, Susan died, and Walt's stepfather, Brian Porter, didn't want Walt and flew to the U.S. to tell Michael to go to Australia and get Walt.Michael went to get Walt and began the parenting struggle. They were flying home on Flight 815.Island: Michael struggled to form a relationship with Walt. They often fought, and Michael was jealous of Walt's relationship with Locke.Michael built a raft that could carry four people so that they could sail off to find rescue. He, Walt, Sawyer, and Jin sailed away on the raft, but Walt was stolen by pirates who blew up the raft. On pieces of the raft, Sawyer and Michael washed up on shore and met the Tailies. They eventually reunited with the other group of survivors.Michael stole some guns and locked Locke and Jack in the armory to go after his son, whom he believed was communicating with him on the computer.At the Others' camp, he briefly saw Walt and made a deal with the Others that he would bring to them Jack, Kate, Sawyer, and Hurley. Michael returned to the main beach and let non-Henry Gale go. To get control of the armory where non-Henry was being held, Michael shot Ana-Lucia, and when Libby walked in, he shot her too. He shot himself in the shoulder to make it look like he had struggled with non-Henry. He then took Sawyer, Jack, Kate, and Hurley across the island, where they were captured by the Others. In return, Michael and Walt were given a boat and coordinates, and they left the island.Sayid and Desmond later saw Michael on the freighter. In front of Ray, Michael introduced himself as Kevin Johnson. Sayid confronted Michael and Michael told them how he was living in Manhattan and tried to kill himself, but Tom found him and told him that the island wouldn't let him kill himself. He went undercover on the freighter to kill everyone and save the people on the island. Strong Relationships: Sun and Jin. He and Jin started out as enemies, but later became close friends. Rocky Relationships: Walt, Jack, Locke

Reason for the Flight: Traveling home from her honeymoon in Australia where her husband, Bernard, had taken her to see a healer Rose Facts: Pre-Crash: Rose met Bernard one night when she was stuck in the snow. The two hit it off and before long Bernard proposed. Rose told him that she had a terminal disease. She said it was in remission. Bernard wanted to marry her anyway, so they wed.For their honeymoon, Bernard surprised Rose with a trip to Australia to see a faith healer. Rose was extremely upset because she had made peace with her impending death. Bernard said he had made a large donation and talked her into seeing the healer.The healer told Rose that the energy where they were was not the right kind to heal her. The energy she needs exists somewhere else. He told her he would return the donation to her husband, but she told him not to. She told Bernard that she was healed.They were returning home on Flight 815. Island: Even though Bernard was in the tail section of the plane when it went down and was not on the beach with the rest of the survivors, Rose knew he was still alive. The two were eventually reunited.Bernard worked to get them off the island, but Rose didn't do anything to help. She finally told Bernard that the healer had not healed her, but the island had. Bernard said they would stay on the island forever. Strong Relationships: Bernard, Charlie, Jack, Hurley

Reason for the Flight: Traveling "on vacation" with Jin who was delivering watches for her father Profession: High society housewife Sun Facts: Pre-Crash: Sun was a lonely housewife who learned English in order to leave her husband, Jin. She had an affair with her English teacher, Jae Lee, who later committed suicide after Jin attacked him on orders from Sun's father, Mr. Paik.Island: At first Sun seemed like a subservient wife. But she later broke out of her shell, even wearing a bikini. Sun did not reveal that she spoke English until she had to in order to save Jin. Once he found out she knew English, he stopped talking to her.Jin and Sun reunited before Jin left on the raft in search of rescue.Despite Jin's being sterile, Sun finds out she is pregnant and promises Jin that she has never been with another man.Juliet uses ultrasound to determine the date of conception of Sun's baby and discovers that she conceived on the island and Jin is the baby's father. However, no woman who had conceived on the island had lived to the third trimester. Even so, Sun is happy the baby is Jin's. Post-Island: With the money from the Oceanic settlement, Sun buys a controlling interest in her father's company.No friends or family show up at the hospital when Sun gives birth to a baby girl, though Hurley comes shortly after to visit. Hurley and Sun take the baby to Jin's grave. Sun says she named her Ji Yeon, as Jin had said he'd wanted. Strong Relationships: Jin, Kate, Michael, and Jack, though they sometimes differ on their medical views. She also seems close to Hurley in the future. Rocky Relationships: Juliet who outed her about her affair.
